About GSTCalculator.ca

GSTCalculator.ca provides free calculators for Canadian GST and related provincial sales taxes. The website helps users calculate GST, HST, PST, RST and QST for every Canadian province and territory.

GSTCalculator.ca is part of the Calculators World network. Calculators World is an independent online calculator publisher serving users in Canada, Europe and worldwide.

What you can calculate

The main Canadian sales tax calculator lets you select a province or territory and calculate:

  • the sales tax charged on a price before tax;
  • the total price including tax; and
  • the original price and tax included in a tax-inclusive total.

You can enter a value in any calculator field. The remaining values are calculated automatically.

Separate pages provide more detailed information for Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Québec, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. Provinces that use HST are covered by our related HST Calculator.

How the calculations work

The calculator applies the tax system selected for the province or territory. Depending on the location, this may be:

  • GST only;
  • GST together with PST, RST or QST; or
  • HST as a combined federal and provincial tax.

For a tax-exclusive price, the calculator adds the applicable tax rate or rates to the original amount. For a tax-inclusive total, it reverses the calculation to determine the original price and the tax included in the total.

Results are rounded to two decimal places. An invoice or accounting system may produce a slightly different result when taxes or individual items are rounded separately.

Tax rates and data sources

Canadian sales tax rates are checked against information published by the Canada Revenue Agency and the relevant provincial tax authorities.

Calculator pages show the applicable rates, the date on which they were last checked and links to their data sources. Historical rates or transitional rules may apply when a transaction occurred before a rate change.

A standard rate does not apply to every purchase. Some goods and services may be taxable, zero-rated or exempt, and special rules may apply according to the type of supply, purchaser, seller, location or transaction date.

Corrections and updates

When a tax rate or calculation rule changes, we review the applicable source, calculator settings, examples and explanatory content.

If you find a possible rate, calculation, wording or broken-link problem, please contact us and include:

  • the page address;
  • the province or territory selected;
  • the values you entered;
  • the result you received;
  • the result you expected; and
  • an official source link, if available.

Important limitation
